Collingwood’s Darcy Moore has been praised for his ‘incredible’ and ‘eloquent’ post-match speech after the Pies defeated Essendon on Anzac Day.
Craig McRae’s side erased a 28-point deficit at three quarters to lose 13 points in Tuesday’s game against the Bombers, played in front of a crowd of 95,179 at the MCG.
Club captain Moore took the microphone after the game and was magnanimous in the win.
“First of all, I’d like to give a huge thank you to the 95,000 fans who are here — a record-breaking audience,” said Moore. “It doesn’t matter if you wear the black and white stripes or the red sash, this game is about so much more than four points. So for you to show up today and show your support means a lot and we are incredibly proud to play our part in this game.
“To Essendon – both Andrew (McGrath) and the team, as well as the wider club – a big thank you for making this event what it is. It means a lot to us to be able to come together with your football club and commemorate the sacrifice of not just the Anzacs, but all the servicemen and women who have served Australia around the world. So thank you to the Essendon Football Club.

Fox Footy pundits were stunned by Moore’s speech and praised the 27-year-old.

Jason Dunstall described it as “one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard on this day.”
“He made it all about the opportunity and the sacrifice made for us well before us. I thought that was brilliant,” Dunstall told Fox Footy.
“The words he chose sum it up perfectly.”
Two-time premiership winner David King added that the Pies “have not made a bad decision in a few years.”
