Adult Swim shares a new clip and update on Rick and Morty: The Anime
It's been a while since we last heard about it Rick and Morty: the anime, the standalone anime spin-off series based on Adult Swim's hit sci-fi sitcom. But don't worry: Adult Swim released a new clip of the anime this weekend, revealing that the series, which was originally announced for this fall, would instead premiere next year on Adult Swim and Max.
In the clip, Rick is confronted by an armada of alternate universe doppelgängers as Summer tries to help him track down their target from a radar station in Rick's laboratory. It sure is looks like like it Rick and Morty and shares the series' signature offbeat sci-fi humor.
Executive produced by Jason DeMarco, Senior Vice President of Anime and Action Series at Warner Bros. Animation, and Joseph Chou (Blade Runner: Black Lotus), Rick and Morty: the anime is produced by Telecom Animation Film (Lupine III, Shenmue the animation) and Sola Entertainment. Takashi Sano, the director of the first season of Tower of God and the “Rick and Morty vs. Genocide” And “Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil)' animated shorts, will direct and write the entire 10-episode series.
While there is currently no confirmed release date for the series, the website for Sola Entertainment states that the anime will premiere in the first quarter of 2024, which would put the show's release somewhere between early January and late March – just in time for the winter anime season!
Rick and Morty just concluded its seventh season on Sunday. The series is expected to return for an eighth season sometime in late 2024.
