Adult Bluey fans get into heated debate over how old is too old for the children’s show

Discussion has arisen on an Adult Bluey fan page about whether it is possible to ‘outgrow’ the children’s television hit.

The commotion started when an adult viewer of the children’s series went to the movies Adult Bluey fans Facebook page to share a story about a public exchange she witnessed.

In her post, captioned “When will your child outgrow Bluey?”, the woman revealed that she was out shopping when she overheard a parent telling their child that they were getting “too grown up” to wear Bluey-themed clothes .

She then admitted that she had interfered with the private interaction between mother and child.

‘I glanced at the mother while looking at my own child’s winter clothes and mentioned that our family also loves Bluey, emphasizing that Bluey is suitable for all ages!’ she said.

“I strongly believe that Bluey is a fantastic program for everyone, and that parents should let their children decide when to go beyond a show or any other interest,” she added.

‘It’s not just a children’s programme; it’s also a parenting show, and my stance on this won’t waver.”

Many fans agreed with the poster, with one viewer expressing the widely accepted opinion that although Bluey is a children’s show, it has a large adult fan base.

‘I’m 31. My partner is 32. We have no children. We watch Bluey ourselves and we love it. Bluey is for everyone,” one adult fan wrote.

“As a grown adult I will never get out of trouble again,” said another.

Another said: ‘I’m a 60 year old Nana and I love wearing Bluey shirts.’

“You don’t grow up FOR Bluey, you grow up BECAUSE of Bluey,” one viewer claimed.

However, one fan pointed out that the original poster may not have known the full story behind the exchange.

‘Children bully other children because they like certain things that peer pressure says are too childish. Maybe the mother was trying to protect her child from that sort of thing.’

Most fans agreed that it was a show for the ages. Some viewers supported the series as being 'about parenthood'. Pictured: a scene from Bluey

One fan agreed: “I work at a high school so I’ve seen kids get bullied because of their interests.”

“I don’t think the parent would have meant anything by it, she probably just doesn’t get involved with her kids like some other parents do,” said another.

“Yes, but that mother might have just said that to get a kid to argue for more toys off her back?” And maybe she knows that that child doesn’t play with those kinds of things anymore? Who knows,” someone else commented.

It comes after Bluey’s tear-jerking finale proved to be a huge hit on ABC Kids earlier this year.

The special 28-minute episode of the animated children’s show reached 2.28 million viewers in Australia in April.

Meanwhile, 787,000 people watched the show on ABC iview, making it the most watched entertainment show of the evening.

The episode, titled The Sign, marked an end to series three of the show, ahead of an extended break for the Heeler family.

Guests in the tear-filled finale included Joel Edgerton, Rove McManus and Deborah Mailman.

Billed as the episode that would “change the popular Heeler family forever,” The Sign brought viewers to tears.

It contained the news that Bluey, her sister Bingo and their parents Bandit and Chilli were moving away after Bandit got a new job.

The storyline also featured a drama-filled wedding, which the Heeler’s hosted in their home.

But the episode’s twist came when it was revealed that buyers of the Heeler home had withdrawn from the sale.

So Bandit made the decision that the family should stay. Parents admitted they were in tears at the relatable message about choosing what’s best for your family.

“The season finale of Bluey destroying parents everywhere,” one viewer tweeted on X.

Another X user said: ‘The Bluey finale was beautiful. The Sign was a love letter to years of character and storytelling. I loved every moment. It could be one of the TV episodes I watched.”

“The Sign is simply a masterpiece,” another viewer on the thread agreed.

They continued, “It’s the most emotional and incredible season finale I’ve seen in a long time. I’m really crying right now.’
