Adrian Barker: Ex-cop feared he would die during alleged axe attack by gang of teens as shocking images emerge of his injuries
An ex-cop feared he was going to die when a gang of teenagers allegedly attacked him with an ax and hammers.
Adrian Barker, 54, suffered internal bleeding, serious head wounds and a broken hand during the alleged attack in Wandina, Western Australia.
He came home from work around 3am on Sunday when he noticed someone had tried to enter his building.
It is alleged that a neighbor reported an attempted burglary to police who arrived on the scene, according to 7 Regional News.
Mr Barker said the alleged attack was unlike anything he had encountered while in law enforcement and he thought he was ‘going to die’.

“At that moment I was there alone,” he said.
Mr Barker was taken to hospital with internal bleeding, a broken hand, bruising near his lung and cuts requiring stitches, but was discharged later that day.
He argues that the legal system is not strict enough for young offenders.
‘Young people can do terrible things, young people in a group can do them without even thinking about it. But not to say it hurts the people who are actually in the city,” he said.
According to Chief Sergeant Paul Johnson of Geraldton Police, a large number of burglaries have been reported in the area, but the resident of an address is rarely attacked.

“We understand things like this are frustrating, but you never know when things will go from bad to worse,” he said.
A 17-year-old has been charged with attempted aggravated burglary and committing an act with intent to cause bodily harm.
Police have also charged a 14-year-old boy with attempted aggravated burglary.
The investigation into other possible accomplices is still ongoing.
