The child, believed to be between one and two years old, was dropped off at an apartment complex at 8 South Van Don Street in Alexandria on Wednesday evening around 9:45 p.m., authorities said.

In a photo shared by police on social media platforms, the child is seen wearing a light pink puffer jacket and purple sweatpants.

She appears perplexed, seemingly unaware of what has happened, as she is depicted sitting on the back of a vehicle with an officer.

Police said the girl was “dressed in warm clothing and in apparent good health.”

“No one in the area has reported knowing or possibly belonging to the child,” police added.

The girl was reportedly with her father, as a social media user claiming to be the toddler’s relative wrote under the police post.

“This is my niece, please contact me,” she wrote. ‘I just informed her mother. She was in her father’s care!’

Authorities said the toddler is “safe and doing well” in the care of child welfare services.

Other rumors and speculations have surfaced about the child’s mysterious fall as police are now investigating the matter

The child was quickly discussed on social media. One user wrote: ‘She seems to be taken care of. Neatly dressed, her hair cut, she looks nourished. This is very strange. Could it be a carjacking situation, a kidnapped mother?

They added: ‘It seems strange that in this development they would just drop her if it was a parent abandoning their child. Why not a safer place, why a haphazard residential development.’

Other social media users are praying for the child, as one wrote: “It saddens me that someone felt she needed to be dropped off to be properly cared for.

They said: ‘I hope whoever did that is safe, healthy and mentally stable. She feels loved by me. Some people are just in an unfortunate situation.”
