Adorable boy, 8, and young parents are killed in horror crash by drunk driver high on marijuana – as heartbreaking photos show their mangled car

An adorable eight-year-old boy and his parents were killed in a horror crash on Memorial Day by a drunk driver who was also high on marijuana, search warrants showed.

Jordan Porter, 25, ran a red light in his Chevy Trailblazer before crashing into a blue Mazda CX5 Select and a black Cadillac Escalade at the intersection of US-70 in Garner, North Carolina on May 27.

Tyler Campbell, 28, and his wife Susan Campbell, 29, were pronounced dead at the scene while their son, Miles Campbell, was taken to WakeMed Hospital in critical condition.

The day after the crash, Miles was declared brain dead and his organs were donated to save others.

Jordan, who was initially charged with driving under the influence, was charged Tuesday with three counts of second-degree murder, according to an indictment reviewed by WRAL.

Garner police told DailyMail.com that Jordan was not arrested as of Wednesday afternoon and that a mugshot of him will not be “available” until he is apprehended.

Jordan’s bond was set at $3 million on Wednesday, according to prosecutors.

At the time of the fatal crash, Jordan was traveling 82 mph in a 72 mph zone, court documents show. The condition of the black Cadillac Escalade is unclear.

Search warrants showed that Shelby Porter, the suspect’s wife, was interviewed by investigators at the hospital, where Jordan was taken with minor injuries from the crash.

Shelby told authorities that before getting in the car that afternoon, Jordan drank about two to three beers at a local bowling alley in Clayton, Rainbow Lanes.

She also said her husband smoked marijuana that day before leaving the house to go to work and that both she and her husband knew the car had braking and steering problems.

DMV records reviewed by WRAL confirmed that Jordan’s vehicle had not had a safety inspection since February 2020.

Karl Knudsen, Jordan’s lawyer, revealed that he is the father of two children and is expecting a third child soon.

‘This is a terrible tragedy from all sides. “It’s terrible that the lives of three very nice people were cut short, but sending Jordan to prison for the rest of his life wouldn’t change that,” Knudsen said.

Arrest warrants revealed that police found an array of illegal items in Jordan’s car, including a bottle of alcohol, an open beer can, an open Coors Light bottle, an unopened Busch Ice can and an open box of beer.

They also found rolling papers, a lighter and a cigar cutter in his car.

In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Jordan also faces three counts of vehicular homicide, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, reckless driving to endanger, speeding, possession of marijuana paraphernalia , failure to stop at a red light, expired registration card and tag, expired inspection and transporting an open alcoholic beverage container after consuming alcohol.

This wasn’t Jordan’s first run-in with the law, as he was charged with felony theft in Wake County in 2022, District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said.

In 2017, he was charged in a three-car crash, accusing him of speeding, failure to control the vehicle and improper passing. The lawsuit was ultimately dismissed.

According to arrest records, Jordan has had 12 other crimes committed against him since 2015.

His first court appearance was originally scheduled for Thursday, but Freeman said she expects that to be postponed.

On May 31, just days after the horrific crash, a walk was held for Miles as staff took his body away to donate his organs.

About 200 people gathered at the hospital, dressed in white and red, to honor his parents, Tyler and Susan, both of whom were NC State alumni.

“Miles is our nephew who loves grape tomatoes. He always liked it when Uncle Tim and Aunt Jean would give him an extra cookie at breakfast,” Steve Edwards said as he told stories about the family of three.

Others have taken to the deceased parents’ Facebook pages and commented on their recent posts.

“May this family stay together forever,” one person wrote.

‘A very happy family! They will be missed,” said another.

Kathy Campbell, Tyler’s mother, said, “I wish I could give my life for them. I wish God would just take me and send them back.”

The heartbroken mother and grandmother shared that a Memorial service will be held Saturday at The Summit Church in Garner for her son, grandson and daughter-in-law.
