Adobe’s Photoshop and Lightroom photo plans are seeing a huge price increase, but there’s a way to avoid it
- Some monthly fees will increase for Adobe’s photography plans
- The cheapest option will no longer be available to new users
- Changes will take effect from January 15, 2025
Brace yourself for price increases if you’re signed up for one of the Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom photography plans. These are the subscription options that only give you access to the photo applications, instead of the entire Creative Cloud.
According to the Adobe blog (via PetaPixel), these new prices will go into effect on January 15, 2025. We currently only have US prices, but you can calculate the equivalent price increase for your region. Long story short: the users who currently pay the least money to Adobe will have to cough up more cash, or start paying annually.
The photography plan with 20 GB of storage (including Photoshop, Lightroom and Lightroom Classic) costs $14.99 per month instead of $9.99 – an increase of more than 50%. You’ll need to commit for one year ($179.88) or pay an unspecified termination fee, or switch to the $119.88 per year plan, which remains unchanged (and keeps you locked in for longer).
Additionally, this cheapest plan is disappearing and will no longer be available to new subscribers next year, so these changes are only for existing subscribers. If you sign up for Photoshop after January 15, the cheapest option will be twice as much as it currently is (although you will get 50x the cloud storage).
Go upstairs
There’s no change to the more expensive monthly ($19.99) or annual ($239.88) photography plans with 1TB of storage, which of course generate more revenue Adobe’s way. As mentioned above, starting January 15, these subscriptions will be the only way to just get Photoshop without the rest of Creative Cloud.
Prices for the Lightroom-only plan with 1TB of storage are also going up, although you now get both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom. In the future you will have to pay €11.99 per month instead of €9.99 per month – so it is 20% more expensive. Again, you must commit for one year ($143.88) or pay a penalty.
Adobe prefers that you commit yourself to the $119.88 per year subscription, with costs remaining unchanged. Now, if these prices are a bit too much for you, you might want to check out our guides to the best Adobe Lightroom alternatives and the best Adobe Photoshop alternatives.
These new prices “better reflect the value the apps deliver” says Adobeand notes that it has not increased subscription prices since it started requiring continuous monthly or annual payments for Photoshop instead of one-time charges for each version. If you are an existing subscriber, you can expect an email from Adobe soon.
