Adele Roberts reveals she took the ‘first step in getting her colon working again’
Adele Roberts revealed that she has taken the “first step” in getting her colon working again in a candid Instagram post on Monday.
The 42-year-old radio host and former Big Brother contestant was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer in October 2021 and was cleared by doctors in June.
Adele revealed that she was “nervous” before the surgery and thanked her stoma (whom she calls Audrey) for keeping her healthy.

A stoma is an opening in the abdomen that can be connected to your digestive or urinary system to allow waste to be diverted out of your body.
Following the latest update, Adele revealed that she “might go to the bathroom the ‘old way’ someday in the future,” but she’ll still need more surgeries later this year.
She explained in the caption: “Happy BUMDay. Today was the first step in getting my colon working again (after bowel cancer surgery).

‘I may have a rectum, but I think there’s enough left to mess it up and get things moving again.
“I was very nervous this morning, but I met a lovely woman who I started chatting with and she calmed me down.
“She was preparing for the second part of her surgery to remove the breast cancer. What woman?! Not only had she managed to enjoy her Christmas and New Years with that in mind… but she was ready to face today.
‘Absolute warrior! I hope you’re in surgery now breaking Queen! Carry on girl! Thinking of you and your family and praying for a full recovery.
Adele thanked the NHS for their incredible level of care as she took two selfies, one wearing a face mask before and the second glowing after surgery.

She continued: ‘Once again the level of care I have received from the @nhs angels is incredible. Dr. Bhan and team, I love you. The fabulous Bola along with the nurses and porters who took care of me after surgery, thank you for helping me and I hope my talk about anesthesia wasn’t too random.
“I am also in awe of the advances in medical science in the UK. Thank you to everyone who helps make that happen. You make us proud.
“The fact that I can recover from bowel cancer, have a stoma, start to get my life back together, and today a balloon in my butt to fix my stricture is just amazing. What time to be alive?!
The presenter went on to detail the next steps for her but for now she was picked up by her partner Katie to recuperate at home in front of some Netflix.

She detailed in the lengthy post: “The next steps are to see the surgery team again soon for the ‘finger test.’ Praying is carried out by someone with small hands because the last time they tried to go there they had to lift me off the ceiling.
‘I think there will be a few more surgeries for me this year… but you know what? I am so happy that you can help me and there is hope.
‘I might be able to go to the bathroom the ‘old fashioned’ way sometime in the future. You could even take inspiration from all the balloons and have a grand reopening party.
‘Until then. It’s you and me, Audrey, little legend. Thanks for keeping me happy, healthy, alive and kicking. I love and appreciate you more than you can imagine.
Staying put: It comes after the presenter revealed that his stoma was staying put for the ‘moment’ after giving an update last month.

Sharing snaps of herself showing off her colostomy bag, Adele wrote: ‘Had a meeting with my consultant and it looks like Audrey the #stoma stays.
‘She rides again! Well… she stays for now. It’s a long story but, essentially, it’s not possible to reverse my stoma any time soon.
He also casually mentioned that I had my rectum removed. She may not be able to go to the bathroom normally ever again…WHAT?!
‘Anyway…for now, even though I’m honored to have a stoma, I thought I might give it a try and do some good.’
‘There are around 200,000 people in the UK with a stoma. From tiny babies to the most distinguished members and veterans, many more people than we all realize, and together I feel like we can do a lot of good.
Update: Taking to her Instagram, Adele (pictured with girlfriend Kate Holderness) opened up about how her stoma will stay in her body for now, as doctors are currently unable to reverse the stoma.
It comes after Adele revealed last month that she had fallen in love with her body since she had cancer.
The Radio One DJ admits to having body confidence issues throughout her life, but it was only after owning the bag, which she proudly displays in photo shoots and has nicknamed Audrey, that Adele finally accepted who she is. .
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, she said: “I’ve always struggled with body image. I used to think I wasn’t worthy of going to the gym, that I wasn’t someone who should be healthy and fit. I thought it was a lost cause.
“After Big Brother I gained a lot of weight and I felt like I had to lose weight to go to the gym, I wasn’t used to seeing women who looked like me. I was pretty rubbish about my self-confidence and myself.
“But when I walked into that bathroom and saw my stoma bag, I remember loving it and thinking, ‘wow, my body looks amazing.'”
“I realized how amazing the human body is, and cancer helped me see myself in a completely different way.
“I remember thinking to myself ‘don’t do this anymore’ and this is amazing and great. I love my body and have never loved it more than now.’
