“But when I walked into that bathroom and saw my stoma bag, I remember loving it and thinking, ‘wow, my body looks amazing.'”

“I realized how amazing the human body is, and cancer helped me see myself in a completely different way.

“I remember thinking to myself ‘don’t do this anymore’ and this is amazing and great. I love my body and have never loved it more than now.’

What is a stoma?

A stoma is an opening in the abdomen connected to the body’s urinary system.

It is placed in patients to allow waste to bypass the body and be emptied externally.

The operation is performed on patients who no longer have full use of their bladder.

A removable pouch known as a urostomy pouch is attached to the stoma through a tube.

It collects urine and needs to be emptied by hand.
