Adele reveals she returns to drinking alcohol four months later after getting sober due to fears she was ‘a borderline alcoholic for most of my 20s’

Adele has revealed her plans to end her self-imposed alcohol ban as she enjoys a break from her Las Vegas residency.

Last month the star revealed she had been sober for more than three months but had not had a drink.

Speaking to the crowd at the Colosseum Caesar Palace in Las Vegas ahead of her upcoming break from her Weekends With Adele performances, the star explained how she was excited to have drinks again now that she has some free time.

She told the audience that she plans to celebrate the end of the second leg of her shows: “I’m just going to chill.” “I also hate being sick because this is red wine weather,” she said.

‘I stopped drinking, but now I’m obviously ready to start again because it’s my break.’

Adele said she was forced to give up her favorite drink, red wine, because it was destroying her voice.

“I can never drink red wine when I’m singing, because I don’t know about you, but red wine kills me. I can’t handle it,” she explained, adding that her drink of choice is now half sparkling water and half white wine on the rocks.

‘A glass of red wine makes me fall over the edge. I have the worst hangover, my whole mouth and tongue are turning red. I look like a disaster and my voice just disappears.”

Adele revealed she has been battling an illness and said she has stashed away an expensive bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine, but will have to wait before she can ‘treat myself’.

In October, Adele revealed that she had stopped drinking for three and a half months claimed she was a “borderline alcoholic” in her 20s.’

Adele, 35, told the crowd during one of her Vegas performances: ‘I stopped drinking maybe three and a half months ago. It’s boring. I mean, I was literally a borderline alcoholic for much of my twenties, but I miss it so much. I cut out the caffeine.”

Speaking to a fan who had been drinking all day, she added: ‘So enjoy your whiskey sour. I’m very jealous.’

In March, Adele revealed she once drank four bottles of wine for lunch during a Covid-19 lockdown.

She held a glass of wine on stage in Las Vegas as she made the confession.

According to the Daily Star, she told fans: ‘I remember when I came here in Covid, in lockdown, it was 11am and I had at least four bottles of wine down – as we all were.

‘I said in 2020 that I wanted to release my album. And we were all basically drunk at home.”

In February 2022, a drunken Adele was left sobbing after drinking too much at a gay bar in London, where she stripped down to her bra, pole danced on stage in front of topless dancers, fell and courted the BRIT Award controversy.
