The former lover of a missing man whose dismembered torso was found in a garbage can has been charged with murder.

SA police announced last week that they had arrested and charged two people in the murder of Geoffrey McLean, who was reported missing in August 2022.

On Monday, 49-year-old Sheree Glastonbury stood before the Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with the death of Mr McLean.

According to sources close to the family, she was reportedly Mr. McLean’s longtime lover.

The court heard Glastonbury would not seek bail and instead adjourned in June to set charges.

Outside the court, Glastonbury’s sister Tina addressed the media.

“It’s disturbing. I would like to discuss it further, but due to the legal process I cannot comment,” she said.

“It’s been awful and I suppose this is just the beginning of the journey.”

Mark John Murphy, 51, stood before Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, also charged with the murder of Mr McLean.

However, court documents have revealed that since April last year, Murphy was allegedly involved in a series of crimes against Mr McLean, including assault, trespass, attempted murder and causing serious harm.

In April 2022, Murphy allegedly attacked Mr McLean with a log splitter – an act that landed Mr McLean in hospital.

Murphy was charged with attempted murder over the incident, but just four months after the brutal attack, police believe he helped murder Mr McLean.

In October, the dismembered torso of the missing South Australian man was found in a bin in a vacant block in Salisbury South.

Last month, police released CCTV footage of two people acting suspiciously near the site where Mr McLean’s torso was dumped.

Police later confirmed that the bin used to dispose of some of Mr McLean’s body parts was stolen from an address about 900 meters from the Eastview St crime scene in Brahma Lodge.

It is alleged that the wheelie bin was stolen some time after his murder.
