Elderly man is left with horrific injuries after allegedly being assaulted on a train by another passenger who ‘spat on and attacked’ commuters at random

Three elderly train passengers were left bloodied and bruised after a man allegedly attacked random passengers.

A 27-year-old man has been given a three-month ban from public transport and charged with three counts of assault and affray following an incident in Adelaide on Friday morning.

He boarded a train to the city with a beer in his hand, after which he allegedly attacked three elderly men on the Gawler line.

Phil Fiskin, one of the men allegedly attacked, said he will “never travel on public transport again” after he was punched and spat at in front of his wife.

“He was yelling and cursing at me that I was a racist pig … and then he (allegedly) spat blood in my face,” said Mr Fiskin, who suffered a black eye, told 7News.

‘He (allegedly) hit me. I was against the window and the chair, I couldn’t even get my hands up.’

Mr Fiskin was allegedly punched in the head several times, after which an 89-year-old passenger was attacked.

“He came running down and then boom!” said John Webb.

Officers arrested the Elizabeth Downs man (pictured) at Elizabeth South police station and later charged him with three counts of assault and affray.

Then he got [my] bike and threw him on the railing. He’s an idiot, a lunatic.’

Police were called to Elizabeth South station when the train was forced to stop, and ambulance crews also attended to treat an elderly man for minor injuries.

It was only when a father intervened and wrestled the alleged attacker to the ground that his reign of terror came to an end.

Another passenger, Jean Watson, who was not injured, said the man who attacked the alleged assailant was “defending his family.”

She called him a “hero” and thanked him on behalf of everyone else on the train.

Trains on the Gawler line were delayed by about half an hour as a result of the incident.

The Elizabeth Downs man is scheduled to appear in court in Elizabeth on August 16.
