A 51-year-old man will appear in court on charges of murder and attempted murder following a siege in a suburb of Adelaide following the death of a woman.

Another woman, 22, was seriously injured in the alleged shooting incident on Saturday following a standoff with police in Campbelltown.

The police assume that the women are related to the man.

The neighborhood was sealed off shortly after 1:30 p.m. as heavily armed tactical officers were deployed to contain the incident.

Police responded to reports of gunfire and two women collapsed in the driveway of a house.

The injured woman is in stable condition at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

After lengthy negotiations, the man was arrested and later charged with murder and attempted murder.

There was no application for bail and he will appear before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

“When patrols arrived they found a woman who had died at the scene and another 22-year-old woman with serious injuries,” South Australia Police said in a statement.

The injured woman was safely collected and rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where her condition remains stable.

Patrols set up cordons around the house and surrounding streets, while STAR Group officers responded to reports of an armed man remaining in the house.
