Adelaide Hills home owner’s urgent warning after she claims popular Aldi product set her farm on fire
A popular set of lights from Aldi has been blamed for causing a fire in a woman’s paddock.
Rebecca Brookes is demanding a refund after solar LED lights she bought from Aldi allegedly caused a fire at her Adelaide Hills farm on Wednesday.
Mrs Brookes returned home to find the installation melted amid the fire, with the solar panel having fallen off and landed on her lawn.
She tried to call the supermarket to request a refund and warn them about the dangerous product, but said she was only told to file a complaint.
Now Ms Brookes is warning anyone interested in purchasing the item to think twice before doing so.
An Adelaide farmer came home on Wednesday to find her solar LED lights she bought at Aldi had been set on fire
Rebecca Brookes said it could have been catastrophic if it had been bushfire season
An Aldi customer service representative allegedly instructed her to file an online complaint about the product.
“I told the staff member I had a video of the product on fire, but he wasn’t interested,” she said Advertiser.
She said that while Aldi’s “no questions asked” refund policy is usually good to deal with, she found the response to her news about the possibly defective item strange.
If it had not rained on the day she returned home to the fire, Ms Brookes said it would have been a different story.
“This could have been catastrophic on any other day with high fire danger,” she said.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Aldi for comment.
The fire was caused by a unit believed to be similar to this 5W solar floodlight available from Aldi
