Adam Driver looks dapper as he arrives on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival after pledging solidarity with SAG-AFRA strikers

Adam Driver cut a smart figure in a classic black and white suit and bow tie as he arrived on the red carpet of the Venice Film Festival on Thursday.

The two-time Oscar nominee looked incredibly dapper and seemed in a good mood as he beamed on the carpet.

The star, 39, kept it cool as he arrived in dark sunglasses before beginning to greet fans on the carpet.

His appearance comes after the actor showed solidarity with SAG-AFRA strikers amid the union action affecting this year’s film festival.

Adam is there to promote his movie Ferrari, which was made by the independent company Neon, not a studio. Therefore, the film’s actors (and writers) can attend without breaking the strikes.

The festival marks the start of awards season and regularly produces big favorites for the Oscars. Eight of the past eleven Oscars for Best Director went to films that debuted in Venice.

Movie stars and directors traditionally like to travel to the lagoon city to launch their films. This year, however, is already lacking the dose of Hollywood gloss, as the strike has prevented many stars from promoting their work.

Speaking about the strikes, Adam commented, “Why can a smaller distribution company like Neon or STX International meet the dream demands of what SAG is asking for in these pre-negotiations, but not a big company like Netflix and Amazon?”

He continued: “Every time people from SAG start supporting a movie that has agreed to these terms – the Interim Agreement – it just becomes clearer that these people are willing to support the people they work with, and the others are not. .

“So when this opportunity came along, given the interim agreement, it seemed like a no-brainer because of all these reasons why you want to support your union.”

Adam previously teamed up with Netflix for his hugely successful film Marriage Story in 2019, but he has now spoken out against the company.

By coming to Venice to support the film, Driver said he hoped it would “stop the bleeding a little bit” by helping people in AFTRA and SAG get to work.

Adam’s movie will premiere Thursday night, and the actor is said to be planning a “pull a Pugh” this year.

Last year, Florence Pugh made headlines and sparked conflict with her director Olivia Wilde as she walked in and out of the festival for a quick gig.

And Adam reportedly plans to do the same, agreeing to promote the movie, but be gone the next morning.

He has agreed to appear to promote the movie Ferrari, in which he plays the lead role. There’s such a nervousness about “breaking” the actors’ and writers’ strikes, though, that even though the film has been granted an exemption, he won’t be sticking around.

Adam flew from Paris to Venice on a private jet today, but he will reportedly fly back the same evening after the red carpet.

Ferrari is a film by renowned director Michael Man that explores three months in the life of Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the car company. He has money problems, mourns his dead son and has a child with his mistress – who is discovered by his wife.’

Adam plays the boss of the motorsport company, a former racing driver dealing with a failed marriage and bankruptcy, and bets everything on Ferrari’s performance in the 1957 Mille Miglia Race.

And the star was quick to praise the independent studio for their role in negotiating with SAG-AFTRA when it came out on Netflix and Amazon.

Speaking at the festival, he began, “I’m really happy to be here to support this film, and the reduced schedule we had shooting it and the efforts of all the great actors who worked on it and the crew.

“But I am also very proud to be here to be a visual representation of a film that is not part of the AMPTP and to promote the SAG leadership directive, which is an effective tactic, which is the Interim Agreement. ‘

“Ferrari was made because the people who worked on Ferrari made it by dropping big chunks of salaries, in the case of Adam and myself,” said Managing Director Michael Mann at the press conference with Driver.

“It wasn’t made by a major studio — no major studio wrote us a check. And that’s why we’re here, in solidarity.’
