An acupuncturist has revealed how you can relieve drowsiness by pressing an “alert button” on your face for 20 seconds.

Eileen Li, from Connecticut, said that “digging” in the place between the upper lip and the nose can be like pressing “a reset button to stimulate alertness” in a video posted on his popular Instagram page.

The Chinese medicine guru said the trick can also work to clear sinus congestion, relieve back pain, or wake up someone who has passed out.

Connecticut acupuncturist Eileen Li (pictured) revealed a simple trick to clear sinus congestion and stay alert and awake.

She said that ‘digging’ the spot between your upper lip and nose for 20 seconds can feel like ‘a reset button to stimulate alertness’

“Save this tip because you never know when you’re going to need it,” Eileen said with a blue dot on the “magical” acupuncture point.

‘DU26 is just above the lip and below the nose and you want to press right up to your nose.’

Eileen said those with long fingernails can use their knuckles or can also bring a pen or marker to the area.

What is the DU26 acupoint and how can it help?

The DU26 acupoint, also known as the “water channel,” is located just above the lip and below the nose.

Historically it has been used to revive awareness of blackouts in emergency situations.

Press towards the nose and hold for 20 seconds if:

  • you feel sleepy, fatigued, this is the reset button to stimulate alertness.
  • you have a lot of nasal congestion, this will open up your nostrils.
  • suffer from acute back pain, this will help relieve pain to help you move.
  • You want to wake your boo from a deep sleep, this is the one.

“Once you find the point you want to dig in and hold it there for 20 seconds,” he said.

“Your eyes may water and your sinuses may open, but you’ll definitely feel awake.”

Eileen said the acupuncture point, also known as the “watering hole,” has historically been used to help people who have passed out to regain consciousness and is safe to perform on pregnant women and children.

She recalled a time when her mother woke her up by pressing DU26 when she was only eight years old and had passed out from dehydration.

‘My mom took a hairpin and stuck this point into me. I woke up IMMEDIATELY,’ she said.

Eileen’s clip has amassed 1.2 million views and hundreds of impressed comments from people who were shocked that the alternate hack worked.

‘Wow! She cleared up my congestion and made my eyes water. This will be great for the 3:00 pm drowsiness,’ said one woman.

‘I’m fighting a cold right now and this really helped! Thanks!’ another answered.

“The shoulder pain is gone like magic,” replied a third.

Others already knew the effects of the acupuncture point and shared the times it helped them.

‘Before the EMTs arrived, my mother used this point to bring my grandfather back to consciousness. Let’s just say he was a life saver at the time,” one viewer responded.

“I always use this point when I’m in a place/time I don’t want to sneeze but I feel one coming on, it always stops my sneeze (great when you have food in your mouth),” a second suggested.
