Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returned to screens on August 29 and ended on October 9.
The finale sets the stage for a third season, which has yet to be officially renewed, although creators and showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay are said to have a five-season plan in place.
In September, director and executive producer Charlotte Brändström told Radio Times that “there will be good news soon.”
Previously, Patrick McKay spoke to Radio Times about the overall plan for the show: ‘The great thing about this era in Middle-earth’s history is that there are incredible tentpole events.
“They’re in the appendices in the books. Elrond talks about it a lot during the Council of Elrond in the books.
“And we designed the show so that every season, from now on, every series would be built around a few of these key tentpole moments.
“This season we’re doing the Forging of the Rings, we’re doing Sauron and Celebrimbor, the Deception of the Elfsmiths and the Battle of Eregion – and you’ll have to stay tuned to see what we do next time.”
