Activision already has every Call of Duty game until 2027 planned

Activision has revealed that it has the future of the Duty series charted through 2027.

In a recent interview with GamesBeatActivision president Rob Kostich discussed the history of the FPS series and hinted at where it will go next, confirming that there are around 3,000 developers working on it and that the studio has plans for new games through 2027.

“We are constantly in our planning phase, our long-term planning phase,” Kostich said. “Right now we have games scheduled through ’27 for the things we’re working on.”

“Look, we’ve learned. I think we’ve done a lot of games going forward. We’ve probably gone as far as we could there. We’ve made some games in the past. You’re starting to see the sweet spot in the loop of the times and what really resonates with the community.”

Kostich continued, saying, “You see things like the Modern warfare And Black operations franchises are very popular. We’ve certainly had some other games that have done really well, like Sledgehammer’s original World War II game from 2017 that also did really well.

I think the most important thing is that we feel like we have to provide good differentiated experiences, good things for people to come in and feel like they’re experiencing new kinds of fun.

When later asked about the decisions in which time period to place their games, and why Activision decided to make Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare but didn’t make a game like “Call of Duty: RomansKostich explained that weapons play a key role in defining the setting.

‘I think that ultimately the weapons are a hugely important part of the world for us Duty game,” he said. ‘You also think about what you can do narratively, whatever time period you’re in. The challenge is that when you go into World War II or even earlier, there is less flexibility when trying to maintain a somewhat realistic tone, which is important Duty. Besides, our fans define something very strongly Duty is and is not.”

The next game in the series Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) will launch on November 10th and will be a new game set in modern times as it is a direct sequel to this Modern Warfare 2 (2022).

New to the game is the addition of open combat missions, as well as certain player choices during some story missions, but players can expect all 16 launch maps from the original. Modern Warfare 2 (2009) to make a return.

“Once you get into the modern era, you have a lot more flexibility,” Kostich added. “You’ll have a little more flexibility in the future with what you can do with weapons Black operations area is super interesting because Black operations is all about secret things that no one knows about. There is a lot of applied creativity built in Black operationswhich is always a lot of fun for developers to chase.”
