Acolyte of the Altar is coming to PC in March, inspired by MTG and Shadow of the Colossus
Black Kite Games has announced this Acolyte of the Altar will launch on PC via Steam on March 25, 2024.
Acolyte of the Altar is a single-player roguelike deckbuilder inspired by Magic: the meeting And Shadow of the Colossuswith over 100 cards and challenging, randomly generated floors to play through as you build your deck.
In this dark fantasy card game, you hunt through wastelands in search of colossal ‘Beasts’ that evolve as you battle them. This means that players must think about their actions and combine cards to create the perfect synergy for the attack. You must also manage your mana pool as you summon powerful creatures while taking down Beasts efficiently.
“Send them down before they reach their potential, or bring your own great threats that match their power,” Black Kite Games explains. “Feel the thrill of fighting a giant and the thrill of triumphing against all odds in every encounter!”
Additionally, their anger will increase as you fight a Beast until they unlock new abilities that they can use against you. For example, defeating the Gilded Grifter during his cup match will grant you an advantage, while feeding The Yearning Woods’ Consume skill will fill his health bar and his stomach until it bursts.
The latest trailer offers a look at how these capabilities and card synergies play out, as well as a look at the Patron system. After defeating a Beast, players can offer their body to their chosen Patron, who will create a new gift for the player.
The Patron can also offer more in terms of combat. For example, during the start of a new area they bless the player with a gift of their choice, dramatically changing the way you play.
While the Crumbling Monument’s Skyscraper Sword will make your largest creatures bigger, the Mini Jelly will zap enemies as you cast spells, but gifts can also have consequences, so players should be careful with their choices.
Acolyte of the Altar is available for wishlist Steam and there’s also a playable demo you can try out before the game comes out.
