Academy Award nominations 2024 celebrity reactions: Barbie’s Billie Eilish and Finneas lead stars expressing elation as they earn Oscar nod for Best Original Song

Billie Eilish and Finneas led the way in their responses to their Oscars 2024 nominations on Tuesday morning, as they earned a nod in the Best Original Song category.

The 22-year-old singer and her 26-year-old older brother earned their second Academy Awards nod for their song What Was I Made For? which was featured on the soundtrack of blockbuster Barbie.

The two siblings have already won an Oscar once before when they were recognized for the song No Time To Die from the James Bond film of the same name in 2022.

Billie – born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell – reacted to the news in a short interview with Good morning America as she said, “We feel so good, excited and honored. Oh my god, this is crazy. Crazy morning.’

Finneas – born Finneas Baird O’Connell – then said: “We just woke up at 5am in LA so it feels a bit like we’re dreaming.”

The 2024 Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday morning from the academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California.

As expected, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon dominated the list.

Nolan’s three-hour opus received thirteen nominations and a nod for best picture; Nolan’s direction; acting nominations for Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt; and several awards for the craftsmanship of the drama.

Barbie received eight nominations, including a nod for best picture; Ryan Gosling for Best Supporting Actor; and two candidates for the best song. However, Gerwig fell outside the best director category.

Bradley Cooper and Cillian Murphy will compete for the prize for best actor in the leading role. Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti and Jeffrey Wright also received nominations.
