Liverpool fans have been in the air this Christmas as their team surged to a seven-point lead in the league with a game in hand, while winning every game in the Champions League.
But their bubble could burst when they discover that one of their old European enemies has a son… and that he’s pretty good at football.
The Reds broke a 20-year lapse in the Champions League in 2005 with perhaps the greatest comeback win of the game against AC Milan in Istanbul, trailing 3-0 at half-time to take things up a notch level and ultimately win on penalties.
However, the rematch in the 2007 final brought less joy to Merseyside as the Italian team built a two-goal lead thanks to Filippo Inzaghi before Dirk Kuyt scored a late consolation for Liverpool.
That day, Clarence Seedorf pulled the strings in the heart of Milan’s midfield to secure his fourth Champions League trophy. He was the first player to win the prestigious title with three teams when they won it in 2002-03.
Two days later, he completed a beautiful week of work by welcoming his first son, born in the northern Italian city to his wife Luviana.
Clarence Seedorf’s son Denzel has recently been promoted to the first-team academy at AC Milan
He was born just two days after the Dutchman lifted the Champions League trophy in 2007
Denzel Seedorf has impressed with the under-18s and is on the verge of breaking into the first team
Denzel is now 17 and, in an alarming moment of deja vu for Liverpool fans and all the parties Seedorf has inflicted misery, has attended training in Milan for the first time. The Telegraph reports.
The right-footed midfielder joined the Rossoneri youth side last summer and has already impressed in the top-flight under-18s, making 13 appearances this season.
Head coach Paulo Fonseca has taken notice and promoted him to the first-team training ground this week in an attempt to take a closer look at the situation.
Born in Suriname, Seedorf broke a string of records in a 30-year career that began when he broke into Ajax’s youth academy and moved into the first team in 1992.
The following year he achieved a domestic treble with the Dutch side before winning the Champions League at the end of the 1994–95 season, beginning his love affair with the famous competition.
Seedorf then left on a free transfer to Sampdoria and continued his good form in the middle of the park to earn a move to Real Madrid the following year.
Here he lifted a second Champions League trophy in 1998 when Los Blancos defeated Juventus 1-0 in the final.
The Dutchman fell out of favor with new boss Guus Hiddink and was transferred back to Italy in an expensive move to Inter Milan worth around £20 million.
Two years earlier, Liverpool had defeated Seedorf’s AC, but got revenge in Athens
The 2007 victory was his fourth Champions League trophy and his first came with Ajax in 1995
Seedorf also made 87 appearances for the Netherlands and played in four major tournaments
Despite more fine displays, Seedorf failed to pick up any silverware in the side and moved to bitter rivals AC in 2002, where his fortunes changed.
His third Champions League title came a season later against his old side Inter in a goalless final in which the midfielder failed to convert his own penalty in a successful shoot-out.
After his fourth in 2007, Seedorf became the first player to win the Club World Cup with three teams, having won the honor with both Ajax and Real Madrid.
At San Siro, the Dutch international formed a formidable midfield trio with Italian stars Gennaro Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo, playing between 2002 and 2012.
For his national team, Seedorf played in 98 matches and took part in four major tournaments, reaching the finals of Euro 2000 and 2004, as well as the 1998 World Cup.
If his son Denzel can achieve anything close to the lofty heights his father reached, he will terrorize the midfield for years to come.
