AC Milan have a ‘very good chance’ of signing Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea targeting Marcus Thuram, with the Italian giants leading the race to sign the Borussia Mönchengladbach striker on a free transfer

AC Milan are leading the race to sign Marcus Thuram on a free transfer after the attacker ended his four-year stay at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 25-year-old has attracted a lot of interest after a productive season in which he scored 13 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances.

Milan is currently at the helm to secure its services for the next term, according to Sky Sports Germany, although RB Leipzig have also expressed interest in the hope that the attacker chooses to remain in Germany. Thuram has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea all keen to secure his services.

Milan has reportedly offered Thuram, a 10-cap France international, a signing fee of more than £8.6 million and a salary of around £82,000 a week. There are no details on the duration of the future deal.

Thuram could join a Rossoneri side desperate for a new attack following the retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the under-performing seasons of Divock Origi and Charles De Ketelaere.

After finishing fourth – two points behind city rivals Inter Milan – Stefano Pioli’s side secured another season in the Champions League, but their summer deals got off to a bad start with the expected departure of Sandro Tonali, who heads to Newcastle .

The Italian giants would likely deploy Thuram in the central forward position where he played exclusively last season, but he has shown his ability to play across the three fronts in recent years.

That versatility – and lack of a transfer fee – also makes him an exciting option for Leipzig, whose star man Christopher Nkunku made a £53m move to Chelsea on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old’s goalscoring return was similar to his compatriot Thuram, although his tally of 16 goals in five games came short.

Leipzig are believed to be outsiders to get Thuram as they have just joined the race for the slim striker.
