ABC viewers hilariously poke fun at News Breakfast’s revolving cast of presenters

Fans have passed on ABC’s decision to use a ‘revolving door’ of presenters on its flagship News Breakfast program this week.

The morning show, which is regularly hosted by Lisa Millar and Michael Rowland, underwent multiple changes in just four days, with presenters constantly switching roles.

One viewer ridiculed the changes by posting a gif of a group of men playing musical chairs on the industry blog Media spy.

Another viewer on the same platform listed the changes, including host Emma Rebellato presenting the show with Stephanie Ferrier on Monday, and Lisa Millar on Tuesday.

Rebellato later swapped with host Stephanie Ferrier to make Wednesday’s weather report, after Ferrier did the same gig on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Charles Brice replaced regular sports presenter Tony Armstrong on Monday and Tuesday, before Tom Maddocks took over the sports desk for Wednesday’s show.

The same eagle-eyed viewer noticed that Rebellato would present the weather on Thursday and Friday.

It comes after ABC News Breakfast abruptly cut off mid-program during a January broadcast.

Staff were forced to evacuate the Melbourne studios due to a fire alarm.

Co-hosts Michael Rowland and Bridget Brennan were wrapping up an interview with an author when they were ordered to flee the studio while live on air.

“We have to go, there’s a fire emergency,” a crew member was heard saying to the couple off camera.

Rowland began to explain to viewers what was happening before the broadcast suddenly cut off.

“Now we’re working on a few things behind the scenes here,” Rowland explained before the programming switched to an advertisement.

Programming resumed shortly afterwards with the broadcaster’s News Mornings programme.

Rowland later went to X to explain the chaos.

“So we had to evacuate the studio in the last half hour of News Breakfast because of a fire alarm in the ABC Melbourne building. Everyone is safe and the emergency is over,” he tweeted.
