Two popular ABC hosts have been swept up in a bizarre conspiracy theory that they wore dark dresses on TV to commemorate the death of George Pell.

Fauziah Ibrahim wore a black jacket while hosting Weekend Breakfast on the public network on Saturday, a color it’s not unusual for him to wear.

Co-host Johanna Nicholson also went formal in a dark blue dress.

Twitter trolls immediately began spreading false rumors that the couple had worn the regalia to mourn Cardinal Pell.

He served 404 days in prison, convicted of sexually abusing two choir boys in the late 1990s, before the High Court overturned their convictions in 2020.

‘ABC ‘Black Mourning’ TV Queens on 01/14/23 – Fauziah Ibrahim and Johanna Nicholson. PLEASE EXPLAIN who you pay her respects to…’ one troll wrote.

Another added: “Johanna Nicholson and Fauziah Ibrahim were in black on the Saturday breakfast show.”

The false rumors prompted some social media users to respond.

“Hate how we have to look at what a newscaster wears but how people criticize her for this,” one wrote.

“Fauziah ibrahim has worn black many times on air, even sometimes completely black, there is literally ZERO evidence that he wore ‘George Pell mourning clothes’.”

Social media users swooped in to defend Ibrahim after rumors surfaced that he wore black to mourn the death of George Pell.

ABC’s RN Breakfast news anchor Matthew Bevan swooped in to defend his colleague.

“It’s amazing that people keep bothering Fauziah Ibrahim, who is excellent. How about we drop that in 2022, folks?

Daily Mail Australia contacted ABC for comment.

Ibrahim was criticized for a live television interview with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in January 2022.

The interview focused on rapid covid tests and vaccination figures, with the presenter being accused on social media of rarely giving Mr. Albanese a chance to complete a sentence.

At one point, he tried six times to counter a statement she made that Labor was “getting on board” with the Coalition’s plan to increase vaccination rates.

“If you’d just wait a minute,” Mr. Albanese said as Ms. Ibrahim spoke over him.

The interview drew criticism and upset several viewers enough to file complaints with the public broadcaster.

ABC offered his unconditional support and supported his presenter.

He then made headlines again in April after it emerged he had two lists that lumped his followers into groups titled ‘lobotomized shitheads’ and ‘workplace trolls/thugs’.

She was charged with anti-labor bias and removed from the air for a month before returning in May.
