ABC moderators eviscerated for not asking Trump the single most obvious question at debate: ‘This tells you everything’

The hosts of the presidential debate hosted by ABC News have been criticized for not asking Donald Trump about the failed attempt on his life.

David Muir and Linsey Davis quickly moved on with their story after the Republican presidential candidate said he was shot at one of his rallies in Pennsylvania during Tuesday’s debate.

Neither the moderators nor Vice President Kamala Harris acknowledged the shooting, even after Trump himself brought it up when questioned about the Jan. 6 riots at the Capitol.

Trump said he “probably got shot in the head because of the things that [Democrats] say about me.’

He added: They talk about democracy. I am a threat to democracy. They are the threat to democracy.’

Muir interrupted the President as he spoke about the attempt on his life, saying, “We’ve got a lot to do,” before moving on to another topic.

Trump made the comments after Muir asked him if he regretted anything he said in the run-up to the riots.

In an essay for The FederalistEditorial Director Kylee Griswold criticized the moderators for asking about January 6 but not asking VP Kamala Harris whether the Democrats’ rhetoric could have led to the attempt on Trump’s life.

Griswold wrote: “Imagine refusing to ask the current Vice President if she regrets her hateful anti-Trump rhetoric and the Biden administration’s use of the federal government as a weapon against Trump, potentially inspiring an armed lunatic to shoot him in the head.”

Many social media users have also pointed out that the moderators did not discuss the topic

Many social media users have also indicated that the moderators do not discuss the topic.

An X user said, “One of my favorite parts of the debate was Harris flat out not mentioning the Trump assassination attempt, even though he clearly brought it up in the hopes of having a conversation with her about it.”

Another added: ‘One of the funniest moments of the debate was when Trump wanted to talk about the assassination attempt and the moderators just muted him.’

Muir and Davis are accused of being biased and only checking Trump’s facts, while leaving Harris’ claims unchecked.

The moderators repeatedly fact-checked the former president, while letting Harris off the hook on several points, including her positions on fracking, the economy and Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Trump has been subjected to a fact-check on several issues, including abortion, Obamacare, the January 6 riots and the unsubstantiated claim that migrants are eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.

Opinions on ABC’s handling of Tuesday’s final debate were largely a Rorschach test to determine what supporters of both parties thought of the proceedings.

MSNBC commentator Chris Hayes sent a message to X saying that the ABC moderators were doing an “excellent” job — only to be answered by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, who said, “this is how you know they’re complete s**t.”

After the debate, Harris said she would like to debate the former president again before the November election.

Trump declined to comment on the matter when he said in the spin room a few minutes after the game that he had to think about it.

Shortly after the debate, a CNN poll showed Harris beating Trump 63-37. Viewers who had watched the debate were asked who won.

Trump gave himself a good review, calling it his “best debate ever,” while also complaining about the moderators.

Hannity asked him again at the end of his interview whether he would do another debate, and Trump still sounded unwilling. “The reason you do a second debate is if you lose, and they lost … But I’ll think about it,” he said.
