And while they worked on me, I didn’t think about the nice car I drive and the nice houses I used to have, and the nice job that I had, and the nice job that I have…

‘I thought about my daughter [Bridget] and my ex-wife Judith, who came to see me this morning, which was sweet – bless your heart Judith,’ he said clearly moved.

“I’ve been thinking about those things because when you go through something like that, it really sinks in, which is important.

“There are a lot of things we worry about and care about that are pure bulls***… complete nonsense and at that moment, two or three hours ago, I could think about it clearly.”

Alston revealed to The Advertiser that his health scare came after the former Network Ten presenter had been suffering from chest pains for several days.

He ended up in the hospital early Thursday morning because he could no longer bear the pain.

Alston, who has worked for Triple M and Mix 102.3, said doctors told him on Wednesday he had suffered a heart attack.

An angiogram revealed that Alston was suffering from a blocked artery, and doctors placed a stent – a tube – to keep the passage open.

Alston is currently manager of Adelaide station Radio Italia Uno and is an outspoken advocate for men’s health following therapy for drug and alcohol addiction.

He is also a regular podcaster with his program, The Mental Health Show.
