Abbie Chatfield has criticized the notorious dating show There’s Something About Miriam as “disgusting and transphobic”.
The British reality series, which was filmed in 2003, featured six men in their 20s trying to woo 21-year-old Mexican model Miriam Rivera.
The winner would not only win Miriam’s affections, but also a prize of £10,000 and a cruise.
However, the ‘twist’ was that Miriam was transgender and neither man found out until the final episode.

Abbie bristled when she spoke about the show’s tacky premise, saying, “It was a joke by the producers basically about the contestants, and also about Miriam.”
“The bottom line is that they are angry and she is embarrassed.
“Also, there’s the implication and reinforcement of the idea that trans people are intentionally misleading non-queer people, or I guess the general population back then, that they’re cis, and that’s an inherently bad thing. .

Miriam died in August 2019 at the age of 38.
