Abbie Chatfield responds to feminist backlash against her new dating show Fboy Island: ‘It’s not pretending to be a political documentary!’
Abbie Chatfield may have the word ‘feminist’ tattooed on her arm, but she said her new reality show FBoy Island isn’t pretending to be a ‘feminist documentary’.
The Bachelor star has now found herself in the hosting chair for the new 10-part series that will follow three women as they attempt to find love out of 24 suitors.
However, the twist is that half of the men are ‘f**k boys’ and the other half are actually on the show to find love.
Despite the premise of the show being that the men have to convince the women they’re not players -even if they secretly are- Abbie told The Daily Telegraph that it’s actually a ‘feminist’ TV show.
However, she also said that it’s not trying to be something it’s not, and it’s certainly not a serious show about feminism.

She has the word ‘feminist’ tattooed on her arm, but says FBoy Island isn’t pretending to be a ‘feminist documentary’
‘We are not The Bachelor or Love Island, and we are not pretending to be a political documentary about feminism,’ she said.
‘But as far as reality shows go and the scope of that, it is pretty feminist as we call out the FBoys constantly and the women are in control.’
Abbie said that unlike other dating shows, it will lean into the humour of the situation while also calling out ‘F boys’ and keeping ‘the women in control’.
The media personality, 27, added that the people who object to the show don’t have to watch it.
She previously received backlash from a number of people, including fellow Bachelor star Laura Byrne, for hosting the show while being a feminist.

It comes after Chatfield was quizzed by a number of fans who called out the show for needing to be more body size inclusive after a question on the application asked for contestants’ weight.
While the new host encouraged plus-size women to apply to the show, more shocking questions from the application form were brought to light.
As her Instagram followers flocked to apply, some were shocked to find they were asked to detail how many people they had slept with.
The radio host agreed it’s an inappropriate question but was unable to explain why it was on there and said she didn’t have the ‘power’ to change it.
FBoy Island is set to air on Binge in July.
