Abbie Chatfield QUITS radio to focus on her TV career and personal life after spending time at a Thai health retreat for burnout and work addiction
Abbie Chatfield says goodbye to her successful radio career.
Despite the success of her Hit Network show Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield, the 28-year-old walks away from the grueling gig to focus on her podcast, her burgeoning television career and her personal life.
It comes just a month after the former Bachelor star spent time at a Thai health retreat after suffering from workaholism and burnout.
Abbie announced her departure from radio in an Instagram post, insisting she was “happy” with her decision and looking forward to the future.
“I just need to put my energy into projects that bring me joy and energize me, rather than drain me,” she explained.
Abbie Chatfield announced on Thursday that she has retired from her popular radio show after a burnout caused by workaholism
Despite the success of her Hit Network show Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield, the 28-year-old walks away from the grueling gig to focus on her personal life and other projects.
‘I’m also looking forward to hanging out with my friends and family!! Always a bonus.’
The Masked Singer judge also said she wanted to make room for newcomers to the radio industry to sit at the table.
“It is also time to give someone else a chance who would enjoy and appreciate this opportunity more than I do. I have so much on, and the daily radio takes up so much time. I just didn’t enjoy being in that environment from day to day,” she said.
Abbie stressed that it was only her decision to end the show and insisted that her podcast will still be hosted by the network.
She also plans to continue her other shows, Fridayz Live and Australian Made.
“I just need to put my energy into projects that bring me joy and that energize me, instead of draining me,” she explained to fans on Instagram
In July, Abbie made a shocking confession on her podcast about her mental health while vacationing at a Thai health retreat.
In an emotional voice recording, she explains that she has a “real work addiction” and suffers from severe burnout as a result.
“I’m absolutely exhausted and burnt out at the beginning of this year for a variety of reasons,” she said.
“But I’ve been here about five days now and I think I realize my priorities have to shift a bit, to be honest, I’ve taken on so many jobs and so many roles.”
She continued, “I’m trying to figure out what I do and don’t want to do and I don’t try to force myself to work much harder than I have to.”
Abbie’s recording was extremely popular with The Hit Network and generated high ratings, leading some to suspect she could be upgraded to a coveted breakfast radio spot.
Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield aired weeknights during its run from 7 to 9 p.m.
The star confessed that she couldn’t take her mind off her work and came to the heartbreaking realization that she has put all her worth into her career.
The Masked Singer judge admitted that her personal and social life has suffered severely over the past two years due to her “workaholic” habits.
“This is so dark, but I thought if something happened to me, if I just died, dropped dead, I wouldn’t have seen my friends in six months or a year,” she said.
The poignant admission came after she recently revealed that her mental health had hit rock bottom due to the increasing workload.
In May, the host of FBoy Island shared several photos on Instagram from a photoshoot for Stellar magazine, which revealed that she had been crying on set in between takes.
She said at the time that her increasing workload was getting to her, but her hectic schedule didn’t allow time to take time off to recover.
In December, Abbie was also forced into bed rest after canceling her live podcast appearance on Beyond The Valley due to mental and physical exhaustion.
