She added, “I don’t remember even making that decision. I had about five dresses. It was OTT. So when we renewed our vows, it was completely withdrawn.”

The model and former footballer renewed their wedding vows on a beach in the Maldives over Christmas.

Abbey unveiled on The Jonathan Ross Show: ‘We wanted to renew our vows after ten years, but we went along with it lockdown. The children were there.

‘We didn’t have any children at our first wedding, so it was nice to have them involved.

‘It should have been on a certain day, but it was the World Cup final. So, [Pete] said: ‘I’m not marrying you again on the day of the World Cup final’. So we had to change the day.”

Regarding his involvement in the wedding planning, Peter explained: ‘After ten years I wanted to do something special because she puts up with us and the children. She runs the house, so I wanted to do something.”

The ceremony took place on December 17 in the presence of their four children, Abbey’s mother Karen and friends on a private island at the Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort.

The Liverpudlian wore a beautiful sheer vintage lace dress and veil made by her seamstress friend Silvia, with former footballer Peter saying he got ‘butterflies’ when he saw his wife walking down the aisle.

The couple first tied the knot at the Stapleford Park hotel in Leicestershire in 2011, two years after announcing their engagement.

Sophia, 11, Liberty, seven, Johnny, four, and Jack, three, attended the ceremony, with the couple revealing their children were ‘loved up’ as they flew to the remote island, danced the night away and rolled around in the sand.

Peter and Abbey started dating in 2006 but briefly split during the European Cup, with the footballer making a statement at the time.

But it wasn’t long before they were back together, and the couple now have four children.
