Abba fans were left sorely disappointed this week when the group announced they would be releasing their latest greatest hits album for a staggering amount of money.

On Thursday, the Swedish legends announced that they will release a 38-song compilation on four vinyl records featuring their best songs from the past few years.

Music fans will have to shell out a pretty penny, however, as the complication – The Singles — The First Fifty Years – will set them back a whopping £96.

While the special edition, which is due out on October 25, had some fans going “gimme gimme gimme,” others said no to the music and complained about the high price. One person was furious, calling it “an absolute rip-off.”

Fans expressed their feelings in the comments to Abba’s announcement on Instagram and on X.

They wrote: ‘Another greatest hits… seriously. Nothing new here, just a money grab unfortunately as only OG fans would pay £95 for a 4 LP set of songs they already own.’

‘I don’t really see the point of another ABBA compilation. Most of the songs on The Singles – The First Fifty Years are on ABBA GOLD and MORE GOLD, and the “singles” from Voyage just don’t compare. There’s no reason to spend money on them.’

‘What an absolute rip off £96 for tracks we already have. And on 140grm vinyl, not the usual 180grm.’

‘£95? Holy shit!’; ‘You’re going to make me poor!’

The latest compilation album is an extension of Abba’s The Singles — The First Ten Years, which was originally released in 1982.

In addition to all the popular tracks, including Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia, the album also features songs from the group’s latest studio album, Voyage, which was released in 2021. It also features additional tracks not included on other compilations.

Fans who opt for the softcover hardcover book will also receive a 24-page illustrated booklet with subtitles and never-before-seen images of the band.

Fans of the band who aren’t prepared to pay £95.99 can also purchase the same compilation as a 2CD special, which will cost £16.99.

This comes after Abba’s Bjorn Ulvaeus revealed in June that he thinks it’s a “stupid” name, saying he and his bandmates – Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – actually wanted to call themselves “the Northern Lights”.

Ulvaeus said the Swedish supergroup, who sold more than 385 million records after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, did not come up with the name themselves but that it was forced upon them.

The 79-year-old told the Rosebud podcast that he didn’t like it at the time and his opinion on it remains the same today.

Ulvaeus added: ‘We had no choice in this.

‘I thought it was such a stupid name. And it is.

‘I thought we should have a cool name, like the Rolling Stones or something. The Northern Lights was one of our thoughts – and here we are with Abba.’
