An abandoned Spanish house filled with 1,000 toy babies in a village on the outskirts of Seville tells the tragic story of a mother who lost her two children and started her collection as a survival mechanism before dying.

Villagers are said to still shun the house, which has apparently stood empty since the woman’s death in 2017.

From the outside, the weathered facade contrasts sharply with the carefully curated and preserved interior, which – according to legend – has remained untouched for years.

“Nobody was allowed into the house,” photographer Ben James, 32, said after a visit. “She was a recluse… villagers were terrified to go near the house… they were convinced the woman was insane and the house was cursed.”

During the visit, “there were a few points where some of the dolls, maybe because of the wind, started to jingle like when you move dolls and they play that music.”

Superstitious villagers would believe that the children had possessed the dolls and that anyone who tried to steal anything from the house would become possessed and die as well.

The house has reportedly been empty for five years since the mother’s death, but villagers still fear the house near Seville
