Aaron Rodgers reveals he benched himself in latest Jets horror show… after setting dreadful NFL record

Aaron Rodgers revealed he had withdrawn himself from Sunday’s humiliating defeat to the New York Jets as his tenure with the franchise reached a dizzying new low.

The quarterback failed to throw a single touchdown pass during the Jets’ 40-14 horror loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 17.

After a three-quarter shutout at Highmark Stadium, Rodgers’ nightmare season reached a new low when he was replaced by backup Tyrod Taylor in the fourth quarter.

With the score 33-0 when Rodgers left the game, Taylor threw two touchdowns to claw the Jets onto the scoreboard.

However, Rodgers revealed after the loss that it was not interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich’s call to bench the veteran.

“I mean, it was 33-0, we were sitting there and I said, ‘You’re probably going to Tyrod at some point. [Taylor] here, huh?” Then the next play [the Bills] threw a screen for a touchdown. So it became 40-0,” said the 41-year-old told reporters Sunday.

Sunday’s divisional game marked an opportunity for Rodgers to reach an NFL milestone. Instead, the four-time MVP went down in the history books for an unwanted reason.

Rodgers entered the game with 499 career touchdown passes and hoped to reach the coveted 500-touchdown plateau.

But Rodgers was sacked four times and threw two interceptions, failing to throw a single touchdown during the Highmark massacre.

The four sacks made the former Super Bowl winner the most sacked quarterback in NFL history, with 568 sacks in 247 career games, according to Fox News. His total is three more than Tom Brady, who was sacked 565 times during his career.

Frank Tarkenton holds the unofficial record as he played before the NFL officially started tallying statistics in 1982.

However, Rodgers will get a second chance at the 500-touchdown milestone when the Jets finally end their horror season on Sunday.

The Jets, who fell to 4-12 this weekend this year, will host the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium on Jan. 5 as their campaign ends in playoff exile for the 14th straight season.
