Aaron Rodgers has condemned the Jets offense ahead of his potential return this season, claiming it is not doing its part after the tough home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

β€œIt sucks when we perform poorly on offense like that, because I know what we’re capable of, I know how we’ve practiced,” the 39-year-old Rodgers said during his weekly appearance on β€œThe Pat McAfee Show.” ESPN on Tuesday.

β€œI know the kind of talent we have, but it’s not coming together consistently and that’s why we’re struggling. I mean 191 yards of offense (by the Chargers) and we lose by three points, that’s pretty wild.”

Rodgers then lamented his team’s lack of execution in the opponent’s half, adding: ‘It just comes down to situational football. We were in poor third place in the red zone. If you’re bad on third down, you can’t sustain drives.

β€œIf you’re bad in the red zone, all you’re going to get are field goals. It’s the same motherfucker. It’s about the execution and the little things and everyone does their job. (…) When push comes to shove, we must execute.”

Rodgers, who claimed to be “a couple weeks” away from recovering from an Achilles injury, praised the Jets’ defense against LA, essentially saying sacks and fumbles “just weren’t bouncing our way.”

“But we just don’t play a role offensively,” he groaned.

The Jets are facing calls from fans of quarterback Zach Wilson ahead of next weekend’s pivotal game against the Raiders, but head coach Robert Saleh is declining to do so, adding that it will take a collective effort to make things click offensively.

β€œThere are only so many things the quarterback can control,” he said.

Jets QB Zach Wilson and the team’s offense had just one meaningless TD against the Chargers

Wilson had no touchdowns for just 263 passing yards against the Chargers. He was sacked eight times but was not intercepted. The Jets’ offense also yielded two fumbles.

Saleh wasn’t too critical of his main signal-caller this season on Tuesday – 24 hours after the MNF loss – but acknowledged Wilson can improve his overall play before hosting Las Vegas at Met Life Stadium next Sunday.

β€œI thought overall he distributed the ball … he can be a lot better,” the third-year Jets coach said. ‘But it’s lazy to blame everything on him.

β€œIt was collective across the board.”
