Aaron Rodgers fuels retirement talk by REFUSING to swap jersey after Packers loss ends playoff hope

Aaron Rodgers has fueled talk of his retirement from football after refusing to swap his jersey with Jameson Williams after the Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers 20-16 to eliminate them from the playoffs.

Williams was caught on camera after the game asking Rodgers if he could keep his jersey, to which the 39-year-old Packers quarterback said, “I’ve got to hold on to this one.”

Many fans felt there was only one reason Rodgers would want the jersey after a brutal loss to his division rival that ended Green Bay’s season without reaching the postseason.

Rodgers and the Packers have missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2018 NFL season.

Rodgers’ season was not destined to end like this with the Packers advancing in the second half of the season.

They came into the home game against Detroit on a four-game winning streak and were widely considered a threat for the upcoming season. Except they won’t be there.

Leaving Lambeau Field in January feeling empty is not uncommon for Rodgers in recent years. In the previous two seasons, the Packers lost at home as the NFC’s top seed.

In 2020, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Bucs won the NFC Championship Game before Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers took over Green Bay in last season’s NFC Divisional Playoff.
