Aaron Rodgers breaks silence on ‘beautiful’ trip to Egypt after Jets QB skipped mandatory minicamp ahead of new season
Aaron Rodgers has finally spoken to the media about his “beautiful” trip to Egypt after skipping the New York Jets’ mandatory minicamp last month to visit the banks of the Nile.
Rodgers confirmed during the American Century Championship golf tournament at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, that he was in Egypt in June and skipped mandatory minicamp after participating in voluntary OTAs.
The team has ruled that Rodgers’ absence was “unexcused,” resulting in more than $100,000 in fines for the decorated quarterback, who is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon that kept him out of all but one series of the 2023 season. Rodgers is expected to attend training camp, which begins July 22 in Florham Park, New Jersey.
“I felt good all spring,” Rodgers told NBC Sports during the celebrity golf tournament. “Had a nice OTA. Had a great trip to Egypt. And this [tournament] is like the last marker: Sunday summer is over.
‘It’s very mixed to walk onto (hole) 18, but it’s nice to be here.’

The off-season has been good for Rodgers’ golf game.
The former Super Bowl champion claimed he recently made a hole-in-one during a game in Las Vegas.
“My first round I was fortunate enough to make an ace on 17 at Shadow Creek,” Rodgers said. “That was the highlight of my golf season.”
While Rodgers still tops the Jets’ roster, the team has seen significant turnover in quarterback players.
Reserve player Zach Wilson was transferred to Denver, while the Jets acquired veteran Tyrod Taylor and drafted Jordan Travis from Florida State.
Like Rodgers, Travis is recovering from a season-long ankle injury, which he broke and dislocated during a Seminoles game in 2023.
