Aaron Rodgers all-but confirms his season is OVER as he reveals he hasn’t been ‘fully’ medically cleared to return… but insists next year won’t be his last year in New York: ‘I feel like I can play more’

Aaron Rodgers has all but ruled himself out of the New York Jets this season as the team has been ruled out of the playoffs.

The 40-year-old did not immediately say he would not play again, but said he is no longer on a timetable for returning to the field.

“In the next three to four weeks it could be possible to reach 100%,” Rodgers said. 'If I was 100% I would push to play, but the fact is I'm not.

'We are in the hypothetical world: if we won on Sunday, I would need 11 on 11 training. How would I have reacted? It would still have been a conversation, I would have had to tick the boxes, practice well and respond well.

'Coming back for the first round of the play-offs would have been an absolute no-brainer. I had always circled the 24th in my head, ever since I got injured. That's what I set my sights on. I feel good about where I am now, at least there would have been a conversation about it.

'There is always fear of a recurrence, but I am not going to delay my rehabilitation. Now that we no longer have a timetable to come back, we can be as smart as we need to be.”

His current contract with the Jets expires after next season, but Rodgers said he wants to continue playing.

When asked if next year will be his “Last Dance,” Rodgers replied, “I don't think so.

“When I came here, I had a renewed passion and love for the game, and everything here has been great, the people I've been able to work with, the relationships I've been able to build, my teammates, the men and women who Working at 1 Jets Drive was very special.

“I wanted at least two years, and I feel like last year has been a lost year with only two snaps. I wasn't able to go out there and prove what I'm capable of and see what we're capable of. a team. I don't think next year will be my last year.

'I feel like I can play for more years and be effective until I'm 40. That's strange, because I thought I would probably be on the bench somewhere at forty, but now I want to be a starter at forty, forty-one and see what I can get out of this body.'
