Aaron Rodgers admits he’s ‘got to play better’ as Jets are annihilated by Steelers in fourth straight defeat

After the New York Jets suffered their fourth straight loss with a blowout at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Aaron Rodgers is taking more personal responsibility than he did after last week’s loss.

Rodgers said he needs to “play better” as the season appears to be slipping away in New York.

Sunday night’s 37-15 loss was also the Jets’ first game since acquiring Davante Adams and the second game since former head coach Robert Saleh was fired.

After Monday’s loss to Buffalo, Rodgers was overly critical of teammate Mike Williams. Six days later his tone had changed.

‘I have to play better. That’s the key. I have to play better. Find a way to run the ball better so we can actually pass. I thought I did some nice things in the passing game. Breece clearly had some really nice ones. Distribute the ball around Tae, G and Allen. Mike had a nice conversion, but we had to run the ball better and I had to play better,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers also said that quitting listening to the media will also help the team. When asked to clarify what outside noise the Jets needed to block out, the 40-year-old replied “all of it.”

‘And it starts with me. The energy, for whatever reason, was a little flat at halftime. I also felt like it was right before the game. So I was able to look at myself and what I can do to bring better energy, but we all got better,” Rodgers continued.

There is a huge sense of a win-now mentality around the Jets because of Rodgers’ age.

Not many other teams in NFL history have bet their franchises on a player in their fifth decade of life with no previous results for their franchise.

The Jets are 2-5 heading into the Patriots next week in a must-win situation.

New England is just one of three NFL teams with a league-worst winning streak through seven weeks.
