Aaron Rodgers has spoken out after rumors swirled that he dropped a bong on the sideline before the New York Jets’ loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night.
Rodgers supported his teammates as he continued to recover from a torn Achilles tendon. He was among those at MetLife Stadium when the Jets were defeated 27-6 by Los Angeles.
Before the match, the 39-year-old was seen picking up a black box on the touchline, only for a clear cup-shaped bottle to fall out and start leaking onto the turf.
Before long, social media was flooded with suggestions that the suspicious-looking bottle was in fact a bong used to smoke marijuana.
But on the Pat McAfee Show on Friday, Rodgers revealed it was in fact a bottle of tequila he had received as a gift.

“That wasn’t a bong in the first place,” Rodgers said. “There’s a gentleman named John Sutcliffe, he’s the sideline reporter for ESPN Deportes and he tried to interview me in Spanish a few times with funny results.
Rodgers explained: “I walked off the field with my Maestro Dobel tequila that John Sutcliffe gives me every time he sees me on Monday Night Football…I go to pick it up again, it falls out and I lose half my tequila .
“So, shout out to John for bringing me tequila, shout out to Maestro Dobel… shout out to the bongs everywhere, but that wasn’t one of them.”
Rodgers’ use of alternative medicines, such as ayahuasca, is well documented, but the quarterback wasn’t offended because people thought he might have a bong on the sideline.
Instead, he was disappointed that people’s “conspiracy theories” weren’t more bizarre. “I think it should have been more like dolphin sperm or giant tears or something better than that,” he joked.
