The Supreme Court on Friday extended the interim bail granted to former Delhi minister Satyendar Kumar Jain in a money laundering case till December 4, after which his plea seeking regular bail will come up for hearing.
A bench of Justice Bela M Trivedi posted the matter for hearing on December 4 as Justice AS Bopanna, who is presiding over the case, was not available today.
“In the meantime, the interim bail granted earlier is extended till the next date of hearing,” the court said.
Before this, the Supreme Court had extended Jain’s interim bail till October 9 and asked him not to turn the pending proceedings into a ruse to delay the trial in the case.
The Enforcement Directorate has alleged that the AAP leader had repeatedly sought relief from the court as his bail plea was pending in the apex court. The investigation agency has claimed that Jain took as many as 16 dates from the court.
The top court had on May 26 granted Jain six-week interim bail for spinal surgery, saying a citizen has the right to treatment of his choice in a private hospital at his own expense. On September 12, Jain’s interim bail in the case was extended till September 25.
The ED had arrested the AAP leader on May 30 last year on charges of money laundering through four companies allegedly linked to him. It had arrested Jain on the basis of a CBI FIR registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2017.
On September 6, 2019, he was granted bail by the court in the case registered by the CBI.
