‘A Trip Through History’ quest steps in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
“A Trip Through History” is one of the many side quests you can find The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Start in the Kakariko village and meet Bugut who tells you about four stone slabs spotted in the village, but they are too high and he has a fear of heights. Your job is to read each record and tell him what they say.
Check out the sections below to find out where each stone slab is located and how to get there.
Starting location ‘A journey through history’
Talk to Bugut, located in the center of Kakariko Village, to get the “A journey through historyside quest. Bugut will wander down the road that goes through Kakariko Village, so watch out for a Hylian man with a shaved head and backpack wandering down the street.
Locations of stone slabs
There are four ring ruins scattered around Kakariko Village, and each ring ruin contains a stone slab. Check out the image above to see where each of the four ring ruins are located.
Our first recommendation is to Josiu Shrine which is located above Kakariko Village on a Sky Island on the coordinates (1759,-1208, 0924). By doing this, you can quickly travel to the shrine and glide to each of the stone slabs with ease instead of sprinting to each stone on the surface. To reach the Josiu Shrine, launch from the Sahasra Slope Skyview Tower and soar to the sky islands above Kakariko Village. The Josiu Shrine may look a little different than you are used to: the main entrance is gone! But don’t worry, you can still interact with the shrine to activate the teleport waypoint.
There is a fifth ring ruin guarded by Calip – ignore this ring ruin! This ring ruin is not part of the side quest ‘A journey through history’, so don’t waste your time looking for the stone slab here!
Stone slab at the great ring ruin – 1
Slide from Josiu Shrine to the wooden jetty next to the vertical ring on top of the northern hill of Kakariko Village. On top of the jetty you’ll find a couple of pavilions with researches in them, and under one of them Ollie sleeps on the stone slab. Interact with the open book on top of a bench next to the plate at the coordinates (1737, -0902, 0199) to learn about the sacrifice of the reigning king.
Stone slab at the eastern ring ruin – 2
Go to the ring ruin on the northeast side of Kakariko Village. You can slide down from the Josiu Shrine or walk up the hill to the ring-shaped ruin. Walk past the tents on the wooden jetty and continue to the top of the hill to find a wooden path to the ruins. At the end of the corridor on your right you will find the stone slab along with a notebook with the translations for it at the coordinates (1901, -0812, 0199). The translated text teaches you about the power achieved through secret stones.
Stone slab at the nested ring ruin – 3
Head to the ring-shaped ruin southwest of Kakariko Village to find Olkin, Steen, and Drenja outside. Enter to find three Bokoblins huddled around a campfire and a Bokoblin atop the ruin walls. Defeat all the Bokoblins and then go to the room at the back right of the ring to find the stone slab. Interaction with the notebook on the couch at the coordinates (1632, -1178, 0218) to learn how people become wise.
Stone slab at the southern ring ruin – 4
Slide down from Josiu Shrine or climb the hill on the southeast side of Kakariko Village to the South Ring Ruin. Turn right in the annular ruin to find the stone slab. Interaction with the notebook on the couch at the coordinates (1938, -1081, 0166) to learn about the sages who protected Hyrule from the Demon King.
Reward ‘A Trip Through History’ side mission
Once you read all four stone slab translations, go back to Bugut in the center of Kakariko Village and tell him what you found. After you talk to Bugut and tell him what the stone slabs said, he will give it to you three thunderwing butterflies.
