A beloved Texas pediatrician was stabbed to death while sitting at a picnic table outside her apartment.
Dr. Talat Khan, 52, was sitting with her dog outside her Conroe apartment building when the killer “came out of nowhere” and launched himself at the mother of two.
“The perpetrator checked her pulse, which was very bad,” said witness Matthew Amador.
“I looked outside and they were all running away. I grabbed my sword and I grabbed my phone. I saw him check her pulse, and then he stabbed her three times.
“I said, ‘Hey, what are you doing?’ And it just scared him a little bit,” the firefighter added.
Dr. Talat Khan had only moved to Texas in July “because of the weather” and was working at Texas Children’s Pediatrics in Conroe
Miles Fridrich was arrested just yards from the crime scene. “It didn’t look like he was there, or it was a person, blank face, very dark, you know, an evil look in his eyes,” one witness said.

“He turned around, looked at me and ran.” Amador said more than a dozen people came out of the apartment building with weapons after being alerted by Dr. Khan’s screams.
“I started shouting the description: tall white man, purple shirt, tall white man, purple shirt!” Amador told KPRC. “I have never seen such evil in my life,” Amador said.
Dr. Khan’s brother said his murdered sister left behind a 14-year-old daughter and a 23-year-old son and had only moved to Texas from Seattle in July.
Wajahat Nyaz said he did not believe there had previously been a link between his sister and her killer.
“She loved the sun and the warm weather, so that was one of the main reasons she moved here,” he added.
“Her children, and the children she cared for as a pediatrician, were her whole life. Everything in her life revolved around those two things.’
“This is an immeasurable loss for our family, completely unexpected,” said Khan’s niece Mahnoor Mangrio.
Within moments, police had arrested Miles Joseph Fridrich, 24, near the Alys Apartments where the murder occurred at 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
Fridrich faced previous drug and weapons charges in Conroe that were later dismissed or dismissed, KPRC reported.
Investigators said they had no idea of a motive, but the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Houston said it was paying “very close” attention to the investigation.
“We are unsure at this time whether this was a hate crime, but given the tragic circumstances we are paying close attention to the investigation,” it added in a statement.
“We will continue to monitor the situation as we initiate our own investigation and continue dialogue with law enforcement.”
“Her children, and the children she cared for as a pediatrician, were her whole life,” her brother said
The nearby Al-Ansaar Islamic Center said it planned to install extra security for Friday prayers and urged worshipers to exercise caution.
A delivery person who spoke ABC13 said Fridrich lives under an overpass about three miles from the apartment complex and often became upset when his store refused to feed him.
“It didn’t look like he was there, or it was a person, a blank face, very dark, you know, an evil look in his eyes,” Amador said.
Fridrich was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
“This is an immeasurable loss for our family, completely unexpected,” said Khan’s niece Mahnoor Mangrio.
‘She is Muslim, strong in her faith, those are recognizable characteristics of her. She is extremely loving, kind. She was my aunt, the best aunt.”
