A royal round of applause! Kate, William, George and Charlotte are seen cheering Carlos Alcaraz backstage at Wimbledon in unseen snap shared by King Felipe of Spain

The Prince and Princess of Wales applaud Carlos Alcaraz along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte in a previously unseen photo from their Wimbledon tour released today.

Kate Middleton, 41, was joined by her daughter, eight, her husband William, 41, and her eldest son George, nine, at the All England Club for the men’s final on Sunday.

Both George and his younger sister were ecstatic to celebrate Alcaraz’ first Wimbledon title in the heart-stopping five-set epic against Novak Djokovic.

Meanwhile, King Felipe of Spain was also present to cheer the young Spaniard to victory.

A photo released by the Spanish Palace shows the Wales joining King Felipe backstage at the event and apparently offering Alcaraz a round of applause after the match.

In the image, Kate can be seen beaming as she claps her hands, while Prince William, George and Charlotte also applaud enthusiastically.

The photo is said to have been taken shortly after Alcaraz was presented with the Wimbledon trophy, as the family prepared to meet him backstage.

Other photos released by the Spanish royal family include an image of Alcaraz and Felipe posing with the Wimbledon trophy.

Meanwhile, in another photo, the king was seen posing with both the young Spaniard and runner-up Djokovic.

George and Charlotte were tense during the final which saw Alcaraz eventually claim the winner’s trophy and prize money of £2.35 million.

At one point, George was seen putting his head in his hands after a near miss. Dressed in a blue suit and tie, the heir to the throne often leaned over to discuss parts of the match with his father beside him.

The two siblings cheered with their fists in the air as Alcaraz, 20, claimed a 3-2 win in a match that seemed impossible.

Their mother, the Princess of Wales, beamed as she congratulated the 20-year-old Spaniard and presented him with his trophy – holding him up emotionally for the crowd who had supported him throughout the nearly five-hour match.

Louis, the youngest member of the family, was unhappy that he couldn’t join them despite practicing as a ball boy this year.

Arriving at SW19 with her husband and two children, the Princess of Wales told Ella Ottaway, who heads the youth program at the All England Club: ‘It’s Charlotte’s first time, George came last year. They watched with excitement.

“Charlotte, you’ve mastered scoring. Louis was very upset that he wouldn’t come today.’

Meanwhile, King Felipe gave a thumbs up from the royal box as Alcaraz was crowned Wimbledon men’s singles champion.

The Spanish monarch, 55, looked delighted as the 20-year-old took Center Court by storm to win his first Wimbledon title and remain number one in the world.

After the match, Spaniard Alcaraz joked that King Felipe had been his lucky charm, saying: “It’s special to play for royalty.

“King Felipe, I am really proud that you support me here.

“When I played for you twice, I won twice, I hope you come more often! It’s very special and I have to thank you for coming and supporting me.’

After Alcaraz’s defeat of compatriot Rafael Nadal at the Madrid Open in 2022, the king congratulated the young tennis star.

A few months later, after winning the Miami Open, the monarch called Alcaraz to congratulate him again.

“It’s quite amazing to get the call from the King of Spain. I was more nervous [for] that phone call then the game,” the stunned 20-year-old told reporters.

He added: “It is quite amazing that the Spanish king congratulates you on the hard work you do every day and your victory. It’s something you never thought you’d get.’
