The Oakland A’s have a problem. Well, you may not be able to quite cut it, but aside from its on-field struggles, it has some issues in the often-empty Oakland Coliseum.

One place they don’t have to worry about is the visitors’ broadcast – which has been inhabited by an opossum for some time.

According to SNY’s coverage of Mets vs. A’s on Saturday, commentators for rival teams cannot use the usual broadcast booth due to the ongoing possum problem.

Exterminators have been called before and were unable to drive off the furry creature who clearly has a fondness for A’s baseball.

It was first observed by beat writers in the press box at the Colosseum last May and continues to cause problems to this day.

A possum has found a home within the walls of the Oakland Coliseum and has not been removed

SNY’s Mets broadcast team had to provide commentary in a different part of the stadium, albeit with a pole in their sight, due to the presence and less-than-pleasant smell emanating from the possum’s “leaves.”

It “appeared” in the TV booth from which the Angels broadcast worked on Opening Day, “creeping around” and “walking across the counter.”

Traps for the possum haven’t worked so far, and since the A’s have been spending a good deal of time on the road lately, the creature has had the Colosseum all to itself.

“Apparently the booth smelled so bad of possums, an executive decision was made to move us,” Mets announcer Gary Cohen told amorous viewers.

The last-minute move didn’t seem to bother Cohen, nor expert analyst Ron Darling, who seemed to enjoy the story for their Mets audience.
