A Paul McCartney signed copy of The Lyrics: 1965 to Present gets a $25.6K bid at a charity auction

A charity auction for the non-profit organization MusiCares through Julien’s Auction 50 music memorabilia drew big money from bidders Sunday in Beverly Hills, California, with unique items donated by superstar artists including Paul McCartney, Eminem and Taylor Swift, among many others.

The event was held in conjunction with the 65th annual Grammy Awards, which was held near the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.

A copy of McCartney’s 2021 book The Lyrics: 1965 to Present, personally inscribed by the auction winner, sold for $25,600, a sum twenty-five times the original estimate of $1,000 in 33 bids at the auction.

The two-volume book, which features the legendary Beatle’s liner notes, photos, commentary and art, was called “the gift item of the year and an essential addition to any fan’s library.”

The auction came after the famed artist was spotted out and about with his wife Nancy Shevell in Los Angeles at the Interscope x Flipper Roller Boogie Palace party at the Hollywood Palladium on Saturday.

Rapper Margaritavillain won the sneakers after his fans created a GoFundMe account hoping to help him literally follow in Eminem’s footsteps.

‘My new shoes that Eminem previously owned, worn and signed!’ Margaritavillain said in an Instagram post. “I’ll post more info and videos of the auction later and maybe a freestyle win.”

He continued: ‘Thank you to all the fans who made this happen! I am floored by all your generosity… Thanks to you I am now walking in #SlimShadys shoes!’

Another high value item was a 2020 Epiphone DR-100EB acoustic guitar signed by Taylor Swift that sold for $25,000.

Featuring a front bearing the image of Swift’s 2020 album Evermore, the guitar features the singer’s signature in black marker with a heart drawn on the side. The auction spanned 22 bids, with the winning bid five times the original estimated value of $5,000.

Another guitar, donated by Aerosmith legend Joe Perry, drew a bid of $25,000 in 23 bids.

The 2022 Joe Perry Signature Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitar was signed by the famed musician, who had previously played the instrument onstage in Las Vegas. Item came in a padded black Gibson gig bag along with a black guitar strap, replacement parts, and an owner’s manual.

It included an exclusive Xounts NFT with art by Clay Nation; Xounts Champ Medici and Dr. Bombay sound systems and masks signed by Snoop Dogg; and a visit to Snoop Dogg’s recording studio, The Compound, for a recording session by Bored Taco, which is Cordell’s company.

Another unique item that sold included a vintage Hawaiian button-down shirt by Margaritaville singer Jimmy Buffett that is signed ‘Fins Up! J. Buffett.

The T-shirt, which features prints of fish, surfers, islands, boats and waves, sold for $12,800 in 29 offers.

David Lee Roth donated a painting titled Dark Ocean that sold for $10,240 in 17 bids. The acrylic on canvas painting is signed and dated by the former Van Halen frontman on the back.

Other notable names that donated items to the charity auction include Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Cher, Sting, Shaggy, Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, Lenny Kravitz, Slipknot, Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry, Harry Styles and the WHO.
