A new ‘retro’ edition of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 could be on the way

We didn’t find much to complain about in our Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 review, but it looks like Samsung is planning a new variant of the foldable flip – and it will apparently be marketed as a ‘retro’ edition.

This comes from MSPoweruser (through Notebook control), and photos are included. The images add to the credibility of the claim, but as always, nothing is official until it is official (and business plans can always change).

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Retro Edition is explained as “a nod to the past, but with a modern twist” – in terms of phones that might make you think about rotary dials and extendable antennas, but apparently just the colors and finish that. change.

This foldable version apparently comes with a blue color panel and a matte finish on the frame. Everything else is the same, and according to MSPoweruser we can look forward to the refreshed handset arriving “in the coming weeks”.

More colors

You can currently pick up the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 in Mint, Lavender, Graphite and Cream, while Grey, Blue, Green and Yellow are also available on Samsung’s website. This new ‘retro’ blue appears to be a darker shade than the existing blue.

New color options seem like an easy win for smartphone makers: minimal adjustment to production lines is required, the phone comes back into the news cycle and more consumers could be tempted to buy one.

You may remember that Samsung pulled off a similar trick when it added a new Bora Purple option to the Samsung Galaxy S22 last year. Apple also likes to do this and recently launched a yellow tint for the iPhone 14 in March.

No other leaks have confirmed the existence of this phone, and MSPoweruser doesn’t have the most prolific leak track record (although it’s certainly not a newbie either) – but this sounds plausible enough to actually happen.
