Bungie’s Destiny franchise is coming to a new platform with Lot: get upa new item designed for mobile platforms. The free-to-play sci-fi RPG shooter will be a “brand new adventure set in an alternate Destiny timeline,” developer and publisher NetEase said in a press release, with a story that explores the franchise’s post-Dark Age era .
Unlike the unscripted Hunters, Titans and Warlocks of Lot 2, Lot: get up will feature playable heroes known as Lightbearers – “a diverse roster of characters, each with unique abilities and stories,” according to NetEase. The mobile spin-off promises a shared world, similar to Bungie’s Destiny setting, where players can participate in single-player, cooperative and competitive multiplayer activities. That includes six-player Strikes and PvE and PvP modes inspired by previous Destiny games.
NetEase also promises new modes and new ways to play Lot: get up. The company’s mobile version of Destiny will be playable in both first-person and third-person modes, and can be played via touchscreen controls or special controllers.
According to NetEase, the story of Lot: get up will be set in an “unseen era” after the collapse of civilization and the resulting Dark Age. “With the help of the legendary Iron Lords, humanity has broken free from the shackles of tyranny and united against the alien forces bent on extermination,” NetEase said in a summary of the story. “Amid the chaos of these early times for The City, a new generation of Lightbearers, raised by mysterious entities known as Ghosts, seeks to restore humanity’s prominence and secure its future.”
NetEase says that each Lightbearer will have their own unique combat style. Players are not locked into defined classes Lot 2. But they will wield “numerous powerful exotic weapons,” including guns, swords, crossbows and more.
Lot: get up is licensed and overseen by Bungie, NetEase says.
“For over a decade we’ve been building this universe to contain many unique and wonderful stories, and we’re excited to see mobile gamers experience this new take on the Destiny universe from the NetEase creative team,” said Terry Redfield, creative lead at Bungie, said in a statement.
Lot: get up has no announced release date, but a “limited access closed alpha test” is planned for November. Curious Destiny players can sign up for that test at the Lot: get up website.
NetEase develops and publishes a number of spin-offs from established franchises, including Diablo Immortal with Blizzard Entertainment, Eva echoes with CCP, and Dead by daylight mobile with Behavior Interactive. NetEase also publishes original free-to-play hits such as Naraka: Bladepoint And Once human. The Chinese online gaming company invested more than $100 million in Bungie in 2018 in an effort to “accelerate Bungie’s vision to become a global entertainment company with multiple franchises.”
