A man accused of trying to set former co-workers on fire is charged with assault
DETROIT– Prosecutors announced Wednesday that they have charged a Detroit man accused of attempting set two former colleagues on fire with multiple charges, including assault with intent to murder.
Wayne County District Attorney Kym Worthy and Assistant District Attorney Lisa Coyle said the man was fired from a printing equipment company after leaving threatening notes for two female coworkers. the Detroit Free Press reportedOn Monday, he returned to the business and found the two women sitting in a car, which he doused with gasoline and set on fire, prosecutors said.
The women suffered severe burns and were in critical condition Tuesday, the Free Press reported.
A witness chased the man and held him until police arrived, White said.
The man told a magistrate on Wednesday that he would only speak to Fox News and someone else whose name was not disclosed, the Free Press reported. The man refused legal representation, and the magistrate ordered him to be held in the Wayne County Jail. The man left the hearing shouting an expletive, the Free Press reported.
Jessica Cheaib, an attorney who was on duty when the man was brought to court, declined to comment because the man had not hired her.
Coyle said the man is on parole for an assault in which he allegedly held a butcher knife to a man’s neck and tried to hit the man in the head with a bicycle chain.
The Associated Press is not naming the man because he does not have an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
