Most women don’t have enough bras, according to experts, who have revealed exactly how many you should have.
Emily Blount, head of product at Lounge Underwear, claims women should own ten bras.
She revealed lifestyle differences and shifting priorities could cause that number to fluctuate a bit — but for most women, it’s the perfect number.
A woman’s bra collection should include: three everyday bras, three sports or loungewear bras, two “dressy” plunge bras, and one strapless bra.
The loungewear pro also revealed that women should wash their intimates thoroughly and aim to replace them every six to nine months.
Underwear is essential to everyone’s wardrobe – but most women don’t know how many bras they should own and how often the lingerie should be changed
How many bras and panties should a woman have?
“The number of bras and panties you should have depends entirely on how active you are and the type of occasions you need your bras for,” Emily told FEMAIL.
For example, if you spend your time at the gym or only work at home, you may have more loungewear bras than most.
However, the pro recommended having a range of eight to 10 bras that meet the needs of being comfortable, functional, and flattering for your body type.
Emily also revealed what kind of bras you should wear and how many of each you should have.
“You should create a capsule bra wardrobe that fits every occasion: like three everyday bras, three sports or loungewear bras, two ‘dressy’ plunge bras, and a strapless bra,” she said.
And as for panties, it’s best to have about enough pairs to make sure you don’t run out, regardless of your activity level or outfit choices – so between 15-20 pairs.
All women have different lifestyles and priorities, so the number and type of underwear they buy reflects their daily habits
How many bras does the average person have?
Emily revealed that different studies of women’s buying habits have yielded different answers to the question.
“It’s not an obvious answer,” she said.
“Studies in recent years have concluded that the average number of bras women own is only five, while some conclude that the average number is as many as 16.”
How many types of bras are there?
There are four types of fits: padded, non-padded, underwired and non-wired.
Bras can also come in different necklines such as sweetheart neckline, balconette, plunging neckline and plunging neckline.
“Wearing the right bra type can do a lot more than lift your breasts, and luckily there are plenty to choose from,” Emily said.
