A Florida truck driver in a massive 18-wheeler is arrested after leading police on a bizarre two-hour high-speed chase through Texas

A Florida man was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in an 18-wheeler, crossing the meridians and side-swiping unsuspecting vehicles.

Christopher John Lubowski, 51, was hit with two charges, including possession of a controlled substance, after a chase lasting more than two and a half hours took authorities through multiple counties.

The pursuit began around 1:45 p.m. Saturday, when Rome police responded to a report of reckless driving.

Officers followed the big rig as it destroyed Highway 59 in Montgomery County.

Dashcam video shows the truck driving down the highway and weaving between lanes. He suddenly brakes and makes a U-turn, crossing all lanes.

Shortly afterwards, the truck plowed into oncoming vehicles and hit Gean Fernandez’s car.

“I didn’t think I was going to make it because it was so fast,” Fernandez told ABC13.

But the chase didn’t stop there. The semi later left the highway, plowed through red lights and veered across a road meridian.

At one point he turns onto a dirt road and speeds past acres of farmland where police give chase, creating a dust storm.

The pursuit included law enforcement agencies from Montgomery, Harris and Fort Bend counties.

It ended thanks to the cooperation of several agencies in the Houston area, including the Houston Police Department and the Department of Public Safety, and all necessary tactical forces, including aviation units.

Authorities say Lubowski drove through densely populated residential areas and was forced to stop in the town of Fulshear — only after police shot the truck’s tires.

Dan Wampler, who lives in an apartment complex near where the chase ended, told Eyewitness News he saw officers with guns drawn and pointed at the vehicle.

“I went back in and said, ‘This is serious,’” Wampler said. “I can’t remember ever seeing so many police cars at the same time at an event like this in my life.”

The Roman Forest Police posted on Facebook praising the work of Sgt. Jeff Campbell, Officer Adam Garcia “and all supporting agencies.”

Lubowski, a widow, is from Ormond Beach, Florida. He is described as having brown hair and blue eyes and being 6 feet tall.

The 51-year-old is charged with evading arrest, a third-degree felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony.

Chief Stephen Carlisle of the Roman Forest Police Department said it was believed to be methamphetamine, but that detail had yet to be confirmed.

Lubowski was booked into the Montgomery County Sheriff Office jail.
